“Lights, Camera, Portfolio!”

Introduction

Hi, and welcome to my first blog! My name is Thaleah, and I’m a 10th grader beginning to explore what Media Studies is all about. Since I’ve never written a blog before, this is a brand-new experience for me.

In the future, I’d like to become a veterinarian, but I also enjoy keeping my options open. I have a variety of hobbies, which include playing the piano and guitar, playing sports, and helping with engineering and welding. I also love reading, doing creative projects, and taking photos. Photography has been a big part of my life—I took a three-year course in it, worked on the yearbook during that time, and even received recommendations for my school.

I consider myself a creative person, and I’m excited to keep learning and growing in new ways. The purpose of this blog is to share what I’ve been learning in Media Studies and to show how my skills and creativity develop throughout this course.

Learning About Media Studies

Media Studies has been a very interesting and memorable class for me so far. I feel that I’ve been able to look more closely into the background of media and understand it more deeply. For example, I’ve learned about concepts like connotation and denotation, and how to analyze images and videos beyond just what we see on the surface. It’s fascinating to realize that every image can carry a meaning that most people don’t stop to think about.

The class has definitely been challenging at times; some concepts are harder to understand, but reviewing my notes and definitions each night has helped me a lot. Overall, I find that most of what we’ve covered has been manageable, and the projects we’ve done so far have been both creative and fun.

A Look At And In The Future

Taking this class, I hope to gain a new way of looking at media and to understand it on a deeper level. I want to build a stronger knowledge of media concepts and expand my vocabulary by learning new terms, such as passive and active media consumption, something I had never heard of before taking this class.

Even though my goal is to become a veterinarian, I can see how these skills will still benefit me in the future. As a veterinarian, you don’t just work with animals; you also have to communicate clearly with people. Knowing how to create posters, advertisements, or even communicate through online media and magazines could help me share important information with pet owners and the community.

Creating Through Film

For my final project, I want to create a film. I have experience with cameras and filming, and I feel this is a great opportunity to challenge myself while having fun in the process. I like that I can bring all kinds of ideas to life on screen and be creative in ways that aren’t possible with other types of projects.

Overall, Media Studies has been a very interesting and enjoyable class so far. I’ve even discovered what feels like a new hobby, it’s amazing to learn about something so deep and detailed that most people don’t notice. I’m looking forward to completing more projects, and the idea of creating a full film is something I’m especially excited about.

I’m excited to keep posting and share more of my Media Studies journey.
